The Craft

When the part doesn't exist, it gets made

Metal fabrication is the heart of the shop. Here's the general approach to a repair.

01

Look

It starts with photos and a conversation about the car and what it needs.

02

Cut out

Rot and damaged metal are removed back to solid material.

03

Shape

New metal — steel, stainless or aluminum — is formed by hand to match.

04

Fit & join

Each piece is fitted and joined into the car.

05

Finish

Seams and surfaces are cleaned up, ready for the next stage.

Every job is different — the exact steps depend on the car. Welding is matched to the metal and the era of the car: TIG, MIG, gas and lead.
